How ThriveMyo
Can Help

The orofacial muscles are essential for proper breathing, swallowing, chewing, speaking and posture. Addressing Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders, or OMD’s in adults and children alike, through rehabilitation exercises, can have a profound change on one’s quality of life.

The 4 Goals of Myofunctional Therapy

Establishing Nasal Breathing

We are meant to breath through our nose! It filters, warms and humidifies the air. Nitric Oxide is ONLY created and released when we breathe through the nose. This is so important for our cardiovascular health and oxygen use by our bodies.

Establishing Lip Seal

Our lips should rest comfortably and naturally together all of the time. This ensures nasal breathing day and night and allows us to have a restful sleep.

Establishing Correct Resting Tongue Posture

Our tongue has a big role in our overall well being and appearance. It is meant to rest on the roof our mouth, providing support and guidance for our jaw development. It is also our natural palate expander as we grow allowing room for all our teeth.

Establishing Correct Swallow Pattern

When a tongue pushes forward into our teeth when swallowing it causes a thrust pattern. This is a common reason for orthodontic relapse. When eating or drinking a tongue thrust pattern also causes the swallowing of air leading to other issues like reflux, tummy pain or bloating.
