Comprehensive Myofunctional Therapy Assessment (Children or Adults): $185 / Book Now

A comprehensive assessment is needed to determine an appropriate client centered therapy plan. An initial assessment allows me to learn more about your concerns and conditions through a review of your history and symptoms.

This also includes thorough assessment of orofacial muscles and function, hard and soft tissues and breathing/swallowing patterns. Photos and videos are also taken to assess functional and orofacial patterns during movement and rest.

From here, a myofunctional therapy plan may be recommended based on the information and findings of the assessment. Sometimes a client centered approach is multidisciplinary, and I may recommend that other health care providers are included as part of your therapy plan as we learn about the root causes of your symptoms.

When a prolonged habit is present, such as thumb sucking, it needs to be addressed before a myofunctional therapy plan can be started. Often unhealthy muscle patterns are created, leading to unhealthy symptoms of orofacial myofunctional disorders.

Eliminating the habit is just the first step. Therefore, continued therapy is needed to teach and habituate proper muscle patterns. At Thrive the goal is to make this fun as we celebrate the elimination of the habit! When Thumb or finger sucking, lip licking or nail biting is eliminated, your child will gain confidence and self esteem knowing they have finally kicked an addictive habit!

How ThriveMyo Helps

The orofacial muscles are essential for proper breathing, swallowing, chewing, speaking and posture. Addressing Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders, or OMD’s in adults and children alike, through rehabilitation exercises, can have a profound change on one’s quality of life.

Breathing Better
Optimizing your breathing and respiratory health can reduce or eliminate chronic mouth breathing and snoring, leading to a healthier, more restful sleep! Myofunctional Therapy can also address contributors of sleep apnea, helping you find relief from associated symptoms.

Alleviating Pain
Temporomandibular joint or facial pain can be brought on by grinding or clenching your teeth. Myofunctional Therapy works to reduce the stress on the joint and alleviate associated facial or joint pain.

Breaking Bad Habits
Therapy can assist in breaking habits such as thumb sucking or tongue thrusting. Why so important? These habits greatly affect orofacial growth patterns, breathing and posture. Therapy can assist those wanting to break free, promoting healthier orofacial development.

Efficient Swallowing
Many children suffer from swallowing struggles that are characterized by picky or messy eating, chewing with the mouth open, or even drooling. Finding out the root causes and rehabilitating the facial muscles aids in achieving efficient swallowing and function.

How it works

Assessment
It always begins with a comprehensive assessment.  This is the key component to learning about your symptoms to address the root causes.

Investment
After the assessment, a therapy plan is presented with the estimated therapy fee and treatment length as well as payment options. The number of therapy sessions is specific to each client.

Exercises
Therapy is all about re-programming, changing habits and behaviours of muscle patterns. This will improve the way you breathe, sleep, chew, swallow and rest your tongue.

Success
The key to success and lasting results is dedication to the therapy program and consistency in completing the exercises. In the end, if you put in the work, you will see results. Your success is important to me, and I make every effort to help you, or your child succeed!
